Abstract
In this paper are reported Acen and Salean complexes of the Group 13 elements in a ligand-to-metal stoichiometry of 1:2. These are unconventional by comparison to previously reported examples (with these ligands ) which are predominantly of a 1:1 and 1:3 stoichiometry. The Acen complex, Acen (BPh2)2 (1) (where AcenH2 is N,N'- bis (2-hydroxy(methyl) benzylidene ) ethylenediamine ('common' name)) was isolated as a minor side-product in the synthesis of [ AcenAl ( MeOH )2] BPh4. In a different type of reaction the monomeric SaleanHAl (Al(NMe2)3) (2) (where SaleanH4 is N,N'-bis(2-hydroxybenzy1) ethylenediamine ('common' name)) is isolated. Crystal data for (1): triclinic, Pī , a 9.701(3), b 11.116(1), c 11.393(2) Ǻ, α 62.84(1), β 78.99(1), γ 79.94(1)°, V 1067.6(4), Z 21 with 1032 reflections with F > 6.0σ(F), R = 0.0725. Crystal data for (2): orthorhombic, P 212121, a 12.432(3), b 12.574(2), c 20.024(4) Ǻ, V 3130.3(11), Z 4, with 855 reflections with F > 5.0σ(F), R=0.1044.
