Cluster Chemistry. XCIX. An Unusual Hydrocarbon-Cluster Bonding Mode in Ru₃(μ₃-2η¹,2η³-C₁₄H₁₇Me)(μ-CO)(CO)₇, Obtained From Ru₃(CO)₁₂ and 1,5,9-Trimethylcyclododeca-1,5,9-triene

Abstract

A reaction between Ru₃(CO)₁₂ and 1,5,9-trimethylcyclododeca-1,5,9-triene has given the orange-red complex Ru₃(μ₃-2η¹,2η³-C₁₄H₁₇Me)(μ-CO)(CO)₇, fully characterized by a single- crystal X-ray study. The hydrocarbon is attached to an irregular closed Ru₃ cluster by two Ru -C σ-bonds and two η³-allylic systems, the latter involving exocyclic CH₂ and CH groups. The preparation of Ru₃(μ-H)(μ₃-C₁₂H₁₅)(μ- dppm )(CO)₇ is also reported.
