Abstract
Activity coefficients for dioctyl-, di (1-ethyl-3-methylpentyl), dinonyl -, methyltridecyl - and methyltrioctyl -ammonium chlorides and for methyltridecylammonium oxalate in chloroform have been studied by vapour phase osmometry. The results show that, below c. 0.001 mol dm-3, activity coefficients can be assumed to be unity and can be assumed to be constant at concentrations greater than c. 0.04 mol dm-3. Conductance measurements show negligible dissociation of the salts in chloroform.
