Fused heterocycles from pyrrolethiols. 1,3-Dithiolo[4,5-b]pyrroles,1,3-Dithiolo[4,5-c]pyrroles and 1,3-Dithiolo[4,5-b]indoles

Abstract

S-(Pyrrolyl)dithiocarbamates, prepared by addition of in situ-generated pyrrolethiols to isothiocyanates, cyclize on treatment with bromine to fused 1,3-dithiolopyrrole ring systems, provided the pyrrole ring is unsubstituted in the position adjacent to the dithiocarbamate group. S-(3-Indolyl)- dithiocarbamates cyclize to give analogous 1,3-dithiolo[4,5-b]indoles. Some aspects of the structure and reactivity of these new heterocycles are discussed.
