Abstract
The chloro and bromo salts A2 [IrX6] (A = K, NH4, Rb, Cs; X = Cl, Br), A3 [IrCl6].H2O (A = K, NH4, Rb, Cs), A3 [IrCl6] (A = K, NH4), A2 [IrCl5H2O] (A = Rb, CS), (H3O)K8- [IrBr6]3.9H2O, A3 [IrBr6].H2O (A = NH4, Rb, CS), A3 [Ir2C19] (A = Rb, CS), A3 [Ir2Br9] (A = Rb, Cs, Me4N) and [Co(NH3)6] [IrX6] (X = Cl, Br) have been prepared and the various reaction paths studied. The ready oxidation of IrIII to IrIV and the equilibrium between IrIII monoiridium and diiridium bromo species means many reactions give a mixture of complexes.
