Generation of tris(4-dimethylaminophenyl)methanol (crystal violet carbinol) in reversed micelles

Abstract

The carbinol of crystal violet* (cv) was readily generated in dodecylammonium propionate (dap) reversed micellar solutions even when aqueous cv solutions at highly acidic pH were solubilized. This was confirmed from the absorption and fluorescence measurements. The carbinol reaction depended strongly on the solubilized H₂O content.
