Abstract
Electrochemical reduction of phenols at platinum black electrodes in ethanolic hydrochloric acid, at atmospheric pressure and room temperature, forms aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons as well as ketones and alcohols. The products resemble those from non-electrochemical hydrogenation.
