Abstract
3α-Acetoxy-5β-pregnan-20β-ol (4a) has been converted into the iodo alcohol (6) with lead tetraacetate and iodine. The derived iodo ketone (7) gave good yields of 3α-acetoxy-17,18-cyclo-5β- pregnan-20-one(8a) when treated immediately with potassium t-butoxide and t-butyl alcohol.
