Abstract
The reaction of Viehe's salt (Me2Nt=CCl2 CI-) with benzene-1,2-diol, phenol, 2,3-dimethylbutane-2,3-diol and trans-cyclohexane-1,2-diol gives stable salts which may be readily converted into thecorresponding carbonates and thiocarbonates. Both cis- and trans-cyclohexane-1,2-diol give salts which rearrange, albeit at different rates, to the same trans chloro carbamate.
