Abstract
The low-wavenumber (<400 cm-1) vibrational spectra of the 1 : 1 acridine-bromine complex, the 2 : 3 acridine-iodine complex, and tetrabutylammonium pentaiodide have been measured, and these indicate that the bromine complex is the molecular compound acridine-dibromine (1/1) and the iodine complex is the ionic compound bis(acridine)iodine(I) pentaiodide. An attempted preparation of bis(acridine)iodine(I) nitrate was unsuccessful, the iodine(I) being reduced to molecular diiodine.
