Syntheses and ¹H N.M.R. spectra of a series of Bis(benzylthio)methanes and the corresponding series of Bis(benzylsulphonyl)methanes

Abstract

A series of bis(benzylthio)methanes, C₆H₅CH₂SCHYSCH₂C₆H₅ with Y = p-FC₆H₄, p-ClC₆H₄, p-BrC₆H₄, p-CH₃C₆H₄, p-CH₃OC₆H₄ and CH₃, and the corresponding bis(benzylsulphonyl)-methanes, C₆H₅CH₂SO₂CHYSO₂CH₂C₆H₅, have been synthesized and their ¹H N.M.R. spectra examined. Magnetic non- equivalence of the methylene protons has been observed in both series.
