Abstract
Formic and propionic acids catalyse the decomposition of 2,2- dimethoxypropane into isopropenyl methyl ether and methanol in homogeneous, molecular reactions at 274-334 and 335-389°C with rate constants: k2 = 1010.62exp(-94030/8.314T) s-1 ml mol-1 k2 = 1012.44exp(-124240/8.314T) S-1 ml mol-1 respectively. Carboxylic acids appear to be generally effective as catalysts, and with this substrate the rate order is: HBr > CF3COOH > HCl >> HCOOH > CH3COOH ≈ C2H5COOHhttps://doi.org/10.1071/CH9770801
