Abstract
Single crystal magnetization studies of Ni(en)3(NO3)2 down to 2 K show that there are appreciable antiferromagnetic interactions parallel and perpendicular to the hexagonal c axis. Deuteration of the NH2 groups has no effect on the average magnetic moment of the compound and it seems that hydrogen bonding does not play a dominant role in the exchange mechanism. The structurally related compound Ni(en)3SO4 behaves as a simple paramagnet down to 2 K.
