Abstract
The infrared and Raman spectra of bis(N,N-dibutyldithiocarbamato)gold(111) dichloroaurate(1), [(Bu2NCS2)2AU] AuCl2, and the corresponding bromo and iodo compounds have been measured, and the anion vibrational frequencies assigned. The results are compared with those for other MX2- ions (M = Cu, Ag; X = C1, Br, I). The chlorine n.q.r. frequencies for the above-named compound, and the corresponding tetraalkylammonium salts, [R4N] AuCl2 (R = Et, Bu), have also been measured. A Townes and Dailey analysis of the results indicates an ionic character of about 68% for the Au-Cl bond in the AuCl2- ion, and a net charge of about + 0.36e on the Au atom. These results are compared with those for some related metal halide complexes.https://doi.org/10.1071/CH9761407
