Abstract

Adsorption to an organic substrate by a suitable reducible solute influences the magnitude of the hole saturation photo-current and hence the charge-carrier injection efficiency. Efficiencies up to 0.65 have been observed with organic photo-injectors, and 0.31 for a hexacyanoferrate(111) hole photo-injector in the singlet region of anthracene (λ 395 nm). About 5 ± 4% of the holes formed in the initial photo-injection do not reach the external circuit, presumably because they react at the injecting surface.
