Eight-coordinate complexes of titanium and niobium tetrachlorides with 1,8- Bisdimethylarsinonaphthalene

Abstract

Titanium and niobium tetrachlorides form the eight-coordinate adducts [TiCl₄(naars)₂] and[NbCl₄(naars)₂] with 1,8-bisdimethylarsinonaphthalene. The visible spectrum of the latter compound shows that as a result of the small ?bite? of this bidentate ligand, the order of orbital energies is d_xy < d_xz, d_yz < d_x2-y2 < d_z2.
