Use of a paramagnetic broadening agent to assign the ¹³C N.M.R. spectra of some aliphatic amines. Substituent effects of the amino group

Abstract

Copper acetylacetonate produces differential line broadening in the ¹³C N.M.R. spectra of some simple aliphatic amines. The effect operates through electron-nuclear hyperfine coupling and exhibits a strong dependency on the relative geometrical arrangement of the interacting centres. The effect is useful in assigning the ¹³C N.M.R. spectra of some isomeric methylcyclohexylamines. Substituent effects of the amino group are discussed.
