The acid-catalysed rearrangement of two Benzo-p-quinols

Abstract

Treatment of the phenyl p-quinol (7a) with acetic anhydride-sulphuric acid yields the naphthalene- 1,3-diol derivative (8a), whereas the methyl p-quinol (7b) gives 4-acetoxymethyl-2,6-di-t-butyl-1- naphthyl acetate (15).
