Complexes of 8-Amino-2-methylquinoline with cobalt(II)

Abstract

The bidentate ligand 8-amino-2-methylquinoline (maq) forms complexes with cobalt(11) of the type Co(maq)X₂,nH₂O where X = Cl, Br, or I, and Co(maq) ₂X₂nH₂O where X = Cl, Br, I, or NO₃. Evidence suggests that the mono-chelated complexes are tetrahedral in the solid state and in acetone and nitrobenzene solution but octahedral in methanol solution. The bis-compounds are octahedral in the solid state and in methanol solution but are tetrahedral in nitrobenzene.
