Acridone studies. IX. Reaction of the isomeric Bromo-10-methylacridones with potassamide, lithium piperidide, and piperidine

Abstract

The reaction of the four isomeric bromo-10.methylacridones with potassamide and lithium piperidide has been studied, and the products rationalized in terms of the addition-elimination and elimination-addition mechanisms. The 1-bromo isomer reacts anomalously with potassamide, giving a Haller-Bauer type product. Reduction competes with substitution in the reaction of 2- and 4-bromoacridones with lithium piperidide.
