Abstract
The oxidation of carbohydrates and some other polyhydroxy compounds by Penton's reagent has been studied by redox titration at constant oxidation potential. Such compounds were oxidized by a cyclic process involving the formation of enediols which reduced ferric ion. The possible significance of these reactions is indicated. The peroxide consumed in the complete oxidation of carbohydrates and some polymers was measured in the absence and presence of oxygen.https://doi.org/10.1071/CH9720105
