Abstract
The reactions of the halocarbonyls M(CO)4X2 [M = Mo, W; X = Cl, Br,I] with the three tolylphosphines (ortho, meta, and para) have been investigated. The variation observed in the nature of the reactions and properties of the products has been explained in terms of a steric effect. The oxidation of trans-M(CO)4(PPh3)2 with halogen, and the reactions of triphenylphosphine with M(CO)4I2, have been reinvestigated along with a study of the corresponding reactions for the tritolylphosphines. Mechanisms for these reactions have been proposed.https://doi.org/10.1071/CH9720017
