Metal template reactions. IV. The attempted dimerization of α,ω amino aldehydes around nickel(II) ions

Abstract

The dimerization of certain α,w amino aldehydes around a nickel(11) ion-a potentially useful procedure for the preparation of macrocyclic nickel(11) complexes-could not be achieved. Hydrogenation of 2-formyl-2'-nitrodiphenylamine and several of its derivatives, with or without the presence of nickel(11) ions, in all cases yielded 10,11-dihydro-5H dibenzo[b,f][1,4]diazepine. α,w Amino acetals have been prepared by reactions of 2-minobenzaldehyde and 2-nitrobenzalclehyde respectively with 2-amino-1,l-diethoxyethane, followed by reduction in the latter case, but these could not be converted into macrocyclic products.
