Abstract
.The diffuse reflectance spectra of basic rhodo perchlorate, [(NH3)5OCr- (NH3)5](ClO4)4, a t 300°K and 77°K show evidence for both allowed and forbidden hot electronic bands. The near-ultraviolet region containing the well-established four sharp bands in fact contains at least six bands, consisting of two sets of three. The two sets have inverted intensities and originate from different electronic ground states.
The spectrum of acid rhodo chloride, [(NH3)5Cr(OH)Cr(NH3)5]Cl5,H2O, resembles that of a d3 configuration in a near-octahedral field.
