The reaction of tervalent phosphorus compounds with dichlorodiphenylmethane

Abstract

The reactions of dichlorodiphenylmethane with (MeO)₃P, (MeO)₂PPh, MeOPPh₂, PPh₃, Buⁿ₃P, (Me₂N)₃P, and Ph₃As have been studied, and the origin of the products is discussed in terms of attack of phosphorus at halogen and carbon. Attack at halogen does not seem to be the initial step in these reactions.
