Abstract

Trace activity coefficients have been determined of both electrolyte components in the aqueous systems Mg(ClO4)2-HCl, Sr(ClO4)2-HCl, and Ba(ClO4)2-HCl at 25°. The systems are basically similar to the Ca(ClO4)2- HCl system but the agreement with Guggenheim?s1 theory of mixtures improves with increasing molecular weight of the 2 : 1 electrolyte. Calculations based on the assumption that the linear form of Harned?s2 rule applies to both components are particularly in error for the Mg(ClO4)2-HCl system.
