Abstract
Complexes of o-methylthioaniline (NH2-SMe) have been obtained with nickel(II), palladium(II), platinum(II), and copper(II). They are of the following types: NiX2(NH2-SMe)2 (X = Cl, Br, I); PdX2(SH2-SMe) (X = Cl, Br, I, SCN); PdCl2(NH2-SMe)2; [Pd(NH2-SMe)2](PF6)2; PtX2(NH2-SMe) (X = Br, I, SCN); [Pt(NH2-SMe)2][PtCl4]; and CuX2(NH2-SMe) (X = Cl, Br). A conductimetric titration of [Pd(NH2-SNe)2]2+ with iodide ion in nitrobenzene solution shows that one molecule of ligand is displaced to give PtI2(NH2-SMe). If the complexes PdCl2(NH2-SMe) and [Pt(NH2-SMe)2][PtCl4] are heated in dimethylformamide, S-demethylation of the ligand occurs to yield the thiolo-bridged complexes M2Cl2(NH2-S)2(M = Pd, Pt). The nickel complex NiI2(NH2-SMe)2 is not demethylated under the same conditions.https://doi.org/10.1071/CH9670471
