Abstract

Experimental studies of the variation of the faradaic admittance with amplitude of the alternating voltage have shown that only one of three proposed theoretical expressions can be valid; the results in fact substantiate this theory in absolute terms. As a result, it is possible to measure the effective amplitude of the alternating voltage more reliably than by measurement of the absolute magnitude of the faradaic admittance, or by correction for the voltage drop across the resistances in series with the interface region. In some cases, useful information may also be obtained about the number of electrons involved in the reversible electron-transfer step.
