The photochemistry of cis- and trans-1,1-Dimethyldecalin-10-carbonyl azides

Abstract

cis- and trans-1,1-Dimethyldecalin-10-carboxylic acids have been synthesized from 10-ethoxyca~rbonyl-A1~g-octal-2-one by methylation with methyl iodide and potassium t-butoxide, followed by hydrogenation and Wolff-Kishner reduction. Photolysis of their acyl azides in cyclohexane gives the corresponding isocyanates, the tricyclic δ-lactams (XI) (cis) and (VIII) (trans), and other products.
