Flavan Derivatives. VIII. The Configurations of Some Flavan-3,4-diols Determined by Oxidation with Lead Tetra-acetate

Abstract

Rates of oxidation with lead tetra-acetate have been used to establish the geometrical configurations of some flavan-3,4-diols. Mollisacacidin trimethyl ether is thereby shown to be a trans-glycol, and it is confirmed that (-)-teracacidin trimethyl ether and (-)-melacacidin tetramethyl ether are cis-glycols.
