Alkaloids of Ochrosia poweri Bailey. I. The Leaf-bases

Abstract

Leaves of Ochrosia poweri Bail. furnished reserpine, isoreserpiline, and four new indole alkaloids, elliptamine (C₂₄H₃₀O₅N₂), powerine (C₂₁H₂₆O₄N₂), poweridine (C₂₄H₃₀O₅N₂), and poweramine (C23H₃₀O₄N₂), together with traces of others as yet uncharacterized. Powerine is an alkali-labile alkaloid which appears to be a derivative of 5-methoxyindole. Poweridine is probably a methoxy-O-acetylyohimbine.
