The Preparation and Resolution of the Bis-(2,2'-bipyridine)-l,10-phenanthrolinenickel(II) and the Bis-(1,10-phenanthroline)-2,2'-bipyridinenickel(II) Ions

Abstract

The new complexes bis-(2,2'-bipyridine)-1,10-phenanthrolinenickel(II) chloride 5-hydrate and bis-(1,10-phenanthroline)-2,2'-bipyridinenickel(II) chloride %hydrate have been prepared by the addition of two molecules of the required ligand to the mono complex. They have been resolved using sodium D-arsenyltartrate and sodium D-antimonyltartrate respectively. The optical forms racemize rapidly in solution and the rates of racemization are increased by both acid and base.
