Abstract
Colourless or very pale yellow complexes of the type Cdpic2X2, Cdpic3(ClO4)2, Inpic3X3, and Inpic2X3 have been prepared and studied, pic being the ligand 2-picolylamine and X halogen. The cadmium complexes are stable in water, in which they may be prepared and in which they react as bi-univalent electrolytes, whereas the iodide Cdpic2I2, having a very low conductance in nitromethane, has a 6-coordinate octahedral structure. The indium complexes Inpic3X3 may be prepared in ethanol, whilst the Inpic2X3 complexes are obtained by pyrolysis of the latter. Conductance measurements of the iodides Inpic3I3 and Inpic2I3, as well as those of ethylenediamine Inen3I3 and Inen2I3, in nitromethane show that in all cases a 6-coordinate structure is maintained. All the indium picolylamine complexes hydrolyse in water.https://doi.org/10.1071/CH9610037
