Abstract
The rate constants of the reaction between pyridine and ethyl iodide have been measured in acetone at 40 °C and 1, 250, 500, 750, 1000, and 3000 atm. The value ΔVs of the volume contraction during reaction in acetone solution was also determined. The results obtained lead to the conclusion that the solvation of the transition state in this Menshutkin reaction is considerably less than that of the reaction product.https://doi.org/10.1071/CH9580285
