The Straggling of Electrons below the Critical Energy

Abstract

The straggling in range of electrons which lose energy by collision and radiation processes is investigated. A diffusion equation is set up and a solution obtained following the method of Bhabha and Chakrabarty. In a given material the results apply for initial energies up to about half the critical energy. A discussion of the application of the results to the interpretation of experiments on meson decay electrons is given.
