Abstract
A practical method is presented of solving polynomial equations with real or complex coefficients with the aid of an electrolytic tank. The roots may be determined with any desired degree of accuracy by means of an iterative procedure. A method of generating the electrode currents, and a method of ascertaining root points with the aid of a rotatable quadruple probe assembly and passive phase shifting and differential networks are described. A mathematical investigation of the accuracy to be expected is made, and tests have been carried out in a tank, verifying the theoretical conclusions. The methods developed are applicable to the computation of the complex values of rational functions, for instance, impedance functions.https://doi.org/10.1071/CH9510231
