Abstract
High-field 19 F n.m.r. measurements in Me4NF solutions at 278 K confirm the existence of [AlFi] (3–i)+ complexes for i £ 5 but indicate that the widely assumed [AlF6]3– does not form at significant concentrations in aqueous solution even at very high F– /Al III ratios.Keywords: Fluorine-19 n.m.r.; aluminium(III); fluoride; complexes; stepwise equilibrium constants.
