Synthesis and Crystal Structure of a Novel One-Dimensional Coordination Chain: [Ag(μ3 -Hbpyca)(H2 O)]n (bpyca = 2,2'-Bipyridine-3,3'-dicarboxylate)

Abstract
A novel one-dimensional silver(I) complex with monoprotonated2,2′-bipyridine-3,3′-dicarboxylate (Hbpyca), namely[Ag(μ3-Hbpyca)(H2O)]n,has been prepared and characterized by X-ray crystallography. The titlecomplex crystallizes in the monoclinic space groupP21/cwith a 12.699(7), b 11.877(7),c 8.427(4) Å, b 107.53(1)°,V 1212.0(11) Å 3 , Z 4. Thecrystal structure comprises one-dimensional[Ag(μ3-Hbpyca)(H2O)]nchains in which the metal atom is coordinated in a distorted tetrahedralAgN2O2 environment by one aqualigand, two pyridyl groups from two different Hbpyca ligands and one oxygenatom from the carboxy group of the third Hbpyca ligand. Each Hbpyca ligandacting in an unusual μ3 mode(N,N′,O) bridges three Ag I atomsto form a one-dimensional polymeric chain. Adjacent chains are furtherinterlinked into a three-dimensional supramolecular array by the interchainhydrogen bonding and p–p interactions among the aqua ligands, pyridylgroups and carboxylato groups.Keywords: silver(I); 2,2′ -bipyridine-3,3′ -dicarboxylate; coordination polymer; hydrogen bond; X-ray crystal structure.
