Abstract
This study attempts to develop a logical basis for determining those experimental methods which give unbiased estimates of population variances. The steps involved are: (1) definition of the population and parameters; (2) definition of sampling and experimental procedure; (3) .construction of the mathematical model; (4) derivation of expectations of mean squares; and (5) demonstration that unbiased estimates can be obtained from the observed mean squares.https://doi.org/10.1071/BI9580219
