Hyperiidea (Crustacea : Ampipoda) from Queensland waters

Abstract

Plankton samples collected between Townsville and the Great Barrier Reef during the period from October 1972 to October 1973 were subsampled for hyperiid amphipods. Thirty-five species of Hyperiidea representing 10 families and 26 genera were found. Twenty-two species are new records for the Great Barrier Reef region and 16 are new records for Australian waters. None of the species collected in Queensland is new to science. Brief diagnoses and keys are given for all families, genera and species found in Queensland waters and a checklist of all known Australian species is given in an appendix.
