Revision of the Genus Pachyprosopis Perkins (Apoidea : Colletidae)

Abstract

The genus Pachyprosopis Perkins, 1908, is revised. Nineteen species are recognized including the following seven species described as new: P. cornuta, P. psilosomata, P. eucalypti, P. eucyrta, P. sternotricha, P. xanthometopa, and P. trichopoda.

All species have been redescribed.

The following are considered to be synonyms: P. aurantipes Cockerell of P. haematostoma Cockerell; P. doddi Cockerell of P. plebeia Cockerell; P. obesa Cockerell of P. angophorae Cockerell; P. saturnina Cockerell of P. xanthodonta (Cockerell); P. fulvescens Rayment, P. strigata Rayment, and P. angulifera Cockerell of P. kellyi Cockerell; and P. humeralis Cockerell of P. flavicauda Cockerell.

P. plebeia, P. angophorae, and P. indicans Cockerell are transferred from the subgenus Pachyprosopis to a new subgenus Parapachyprosopis.
