Azepinones. III. N-Oxidation and subsequent nitration of dibenzodiazepinone

Abstract

Dibenzo[c,f]-[1,2]-diazepin-11-one (I) is converted under conditions favour- able for nitration into the N-oxide (IV), and this in turn nitrates readily to form 2-nitro- and 2,4-dinitrodibenzo[c,f]-[1,2]- diazepin-11-one-6-oxide the structures of which are proposed largely on spectroscopic evidence. The experimental results suggest that the heterocyclic ring in compound (I) has little tropone-like character.
